The preparation of Murukku requires general ingredients, also it gets ready in no time. So, letâs get started!
Ingredients Required for Ring Murukku:
Rice Flour - 1/2 Cup (75 grams)
Cumin Seeds - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Red Chilli Powder - 1/2 tsp
Sesame Seeds (Til) - 1 tsp
Asafoetida (Hing) - 1 pinch
Split Black Gram Flour (Urad dal) - 1 tbsp
Salt - a little less than 1/4 tsp
Oil for frying
Ring Murukku Recipe:
Take a Kadhai, add Â½ cup water, Â½ tsp of cumin seed, Â¼ tsp of turmeric powder, Â½ tsp of red chili powder, 1 tsp of sesame, less than Â¼ tsp of salt, 1 tsp of ghee, 1-pinch Hing, and mix well. Cover the kadhai and bring the water to a boil.
Once the water comes to a boil, add Â½ cup of rice flour to it. Pour the flour gradually and mix simultaneously. Turn off the flame. Now, add 1 tbsp of urad dal flour to the mixture and mix well.
Suggestion: To prepare Urad dal flour at home, roast urad dal over medium flame until itâs color changes. Next, blend the dal and sift the flour into a bowl. Your urad dal flour is ready.
Transfer the prepared mixture to a bowl. Once the mixture slightly cools, apply a little ghee in your hand and prepare the dough of the mixture. Make sure to prepare the dough when the mixture is still warm. Once done, cover and keep aside for 20 minutes so that it can get set.

Apply a little ghee in your hand and knead the dough again. Now, let us start preparing the murukku rings.
Take out a portion of the dough and cover the dough in the bowl. Bind the dough well and roll it over the board into a long thin rope. Cut the long rope into 2.5 or 3 inches small ropes. Now, join the ends of the small ropes to make rings. Prepare all the Murukku rings similarly.
Heat the oil in the Kadhai. Drop a murukku in the oil to check the oil temperature. We need medium-hot oil for frying, and the flame should be medium too.
Drop as many murukkus the kadhai can hold. Fry the rings over medium heat until golden brown.
Once the Murukku rings turn brown, take them out on a plate. Fry all the murukku similarly. Each batch will take 9-10 mins.
Ring Murukku is ready to be served. Our Murukku rings turned out very tasty and crispy. Once the Murukkus are cool enough, store them in any container. Prepare them once and have them for 2-months.
